Description
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is seeking candidates for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Urban Horticulture.
We seek a dynamic scholareducator committed to excellence in teaching, student engagement, and applied horticulture research. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality undergraduate and graduate instruction, develop a productive and externally funded research program that addresses stakeholders’ horticultural needs, engage in service to the department, college, and university, and support community and industry partnerships.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Ph.D. in Horticulture, or closely related discipline. The position requires an earned doctorate at the time of the anticipated appointment date.
Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching in an agriculture-focused program.
Demonstrated research expertise and potential to establish a productive program.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:
One or more years of post-doctoral research experience.
Demonstrated record of independent research and strong track record of publishing.
Strong research background in one or more areas of horticulture, including but not limited to controlled environment agriculture, urban food systems, hydroponics, aeroponics, and vertical farming.
Prior university teaching experience and demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
Experience working with stakeholders, horticultural producers, extension personnel, and/or industry or commodity partners.
Strong potential in securing external research funding.
Experience with greenhouse, farm, high-tunnel, or controlledenvironment research facilities.
Commitment to mentoring diverse student populations and supporting inclusive teaching practices.
Strong communication and collaboration skills appropriate for landgrant outreach.
