Assistant Research Professors and Postdoctoral Fellows
Center for Data Science for Enterprise & Society
Cornell University
Application Deadline: January 19, 2026(for full consideration)
Apply on AJO: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/31255
The Center for Data Science for Enterprise & Society at Cornell University seeks to recruit multiple candidates to be hired as Assistant Research Professors or Postdoctoral Fellows; these are 3-year non-tenure-track positions that are funded through the Center with support from the College of Engineering, the Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, and Cornell Tech at Cornell University. The first cohort recruited for this program started in academic year 2021-2022.
This Center aims to unify programs and curricula in data science with an initial emphasis on questions grounded in data that are generated by human activity, including computational social science (e.g., algorithmic accountability and the interplay of data science with policy, law, and institutions), the economics/computer science interface(e.g., markets and mechanism design, auction design, or the study of voting mechanisms), AI & health(e.g., wearables and clinical/public-health data to support mental and physical health), the aspects of digital agriculture in the production and management of agriculture (e.g., managing the food supply chain), digital platforms for urban infrastructure (e.g., micromobility and curb management, heat-wave adaptation, digital twins for housing and code enforcement), and as a theme that is cross-cutting in many of these areas, the corresponding issues of privacy, security, and fairness. The areas highlighted are meant to serve only as illustrative; candidates for these Assistant Research Professorships are sought from all areas of research that advance the state of the art in data science, extending the reach of data-driven research into novel application domains.
The application should include the following elements.
(1) a cover letter
(2) a publication list
(3) a CV
(4) a research statement summarizing accomplishments to date
(5) a plan of proposed research for the duration of the position working together with your proposed mentors;
(6) at least two letters of recommendation from faculty who know your work well;
(7) letters of support from (at least) two Cornell faculty members who are proposed as faculty mentors (where the letters should be received by January 19, 2026).
The proposed faculty mentors at Cornell should collectively have expertise in a core data science domain as well as an application domain, and should be drawn from at least two of the following Cornell units: the College of Engineering, the Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, and Cornell Tech; exceptional cases with mentors from other units will also be considered. Faculty mentors can be either on the Ithaca campus or at Cornell Tech in New York City; however, appointments for applicants must be at least 50% in Ithaca, and will be split between the campuses (either 50/50 or 80/20) only if at least one of the mentors is at Cornell Tech. Candidates are expected to have completed their Ph.D. prior to the start of this position, and to have already done substantial research in areas relevant to the Center. Review of applications will begin on January 19, 2026, and continue until the positions have been filled.
