- Associate Program Manager for Multimodal Transportation
Description
The Associate Program Manager for Multimodal Transportation supports the administration and implementation of programs, projects, and special assignments for the councils operating under the Program Director for Multimodal Transportation. The councils supported by this position include Aviation and Rail Transportation; contract programs supported include the State-Amtrak Intercity Passenger Rail Committee and the Next Generation Corridor Equipment Committee; the UAS/AAM Working Group – a cross council/committee working group for emerging technology; as well as the Technical Service Program: AASHTO Rail Resource Center.
The Associate Program Manager for Multimodal Transportation is responsible for organizing, developing and moderating regular committee and subcommittee conference calls and meetings as assigned; coordinating discussions among member states on proposed federal actions including policy development and comment submission; assisting in planning and implementation of national conferences, training workshops, webcasts, webinars and meetings with state DOTs and external stakeholders; supporting research efforts that enhance the state of practice at state DOTs; receiving and answering inquiries from members and the public, and; managing council and technical service websites.
Working closely with the Program Director, the Associate Program Manager is also responsible for gathering, synthesizing, and communicating information to the Policy Team, AASHTO staff, and members of AASHTO committees; providing on-going project management and budgeting support; developing presentations and letters for AASHTO members and the Program Director and Director of Policy and Government Relations, and; performing a wide range of routine tasks such as drafting correspondence to stakeholders, conducting surveys and tabulating results, coordinating meetings and teleconferences, filing expense reports, processing invoice requests, processing travel requests for members and consultants and tracking billing against budgeting for accuracy.
The Associate Program Manager develops and maintains professional relationships with individuals and organizations in the transportation community, including associations, government agencies, academia, and the private sector. The incumbent may represent and promote AASHTO’s policy goals in meetings, task forces and workshops, as directed by the Program Director.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a minimum of four to six years of progressively responsible, professional experience preferably with trade and membership associations. A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree is required and evidence of a higher degree of professional development, such as a postgraduate education, is highly desirable and may substitute for part of the required years of experience.
The successful candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to serve and represent members on councils, committees, subcommittees, and technical working groups that form the foundation of AASHTO; and project management skills including planning and tracking project budgets and deliverables and the ability to contribute in a team environment. An understanding of the US transportation system (specifically aviation and rail transportation), surface transportation policy, regulations, procedures, and practices at federal and state level is preferred. Candidates should have the capability to effectively and strategically plan and organize activities, and work independently to achieve desired results. Demonstrated understanding of transportation research is preferred. Prior experience in project management is preferred.
