In this position, you will champion transformative approaches to infrastructure risk management across The City, directly shaping the strategies and decisions that will protect today's services and create a stronger Calgary for generations to come. Reporting to the Director, Capital Priorities & Business Services, you will provide strategic leadership and drive change by translating the business unit's strategy into operational excellence and managing the complexity of the City's infrastructure assets. You will oversee the corporate-wide asset management strategy and planning functions and manage asset performance risk across various services. Primary duties include:
- Provide strategic oversight of the City's corporate asset management policy, strategy and practices.
- Sponsor the implementation and continual improvement of asset and risk management practices within each service line, in alignment to the City's asset management strategy and objectives.
- Report on City-wide strategic infrastructure needs and risks that would result in service disruption or public safety and reputational risk to the Corporation.
- Influence City-wide capital and operating investment strategies, including the establishment/adjustment of corporate budgets and reserves.
- Lead asset-related activities during emergency responses and recovery operations related to infrastructure failures within an Incident Command Structure.
- Oversee the City's asset condition and performance assessment, monitoring and preventative maintenance/replacement capital programs.
- As a Responsible Member under APEGA, ensure legislative compliance for the professional engineering asset management practice within The City's Permit to Practice.
- Guide leaders in prioritizing work, ensuring performance standards are met, supporting succession planning for leadership and asset management roles, and fostering a healthy, safe, inclusive, and innovative workplace.
Requirements
Qualifications
- A degree and at least 15 years of relevant senior level professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. - Experience must include asset, risk and project management.
- At least 10 years of experience as a responsible leader of an asset management function is preferred.
- A graduate degree in business administration and/or at least 8 years of economic, financial or business experience would be considered an asset.
- Success is this position requires effective leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead change and achieve results; ability to effectively communicate City-wide strategy with senior management as well as technical, operational and business issues to multiple operational audiences; political acumen, negotiation and relationship management; critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.

Compensation: Level M4E $218,688 - 273,360 per annum (2026 rates)
Days of Work: This position works a 5 daywork week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
