SummaryThompson Palm Springs is seeking an experienced Director of Facilities to join our hotel Leadership Committee. Thompson Palm Springs has quickly become the desert's most exciting destination since opening in 2024. Perched in the heart of downtown boasting an iconic midcentury modern design, this chic urban resort offers bungalow-inspired guest rooms and suites available to locals and visitors alike. Lola Rose brings a bold, modern approach to Eastern Mediterranean dining, inspired by the spice markets of Istanbul and the seasonal bounty of California. Bar Issi, a breezy and elevated coastal Italian restaurant brings a blend of relaxed luxury and culinary sophistication to the desert. Two outdoor pool venues with immersive mountain views, an on-site HALL Napa Valley Tasting Room and over 35,000 square feet of retail and restaurant spaces anchor the resort. The responsibilities of this position include all 4+ acres of unique hotel spaces in a prime location, downtown Palm Springs.
The Director of Facilities is responsible for the overall condition, functionality, and aesthetic integrity of Thompson Palm Springs, ensuring the resort operates at peak performance while delivering a seamless, elevated guest experience. This role oversees all engineering and maintenance operations across guest rooms, public spaces, Security (3 rd party) back-of-house, exterior grounds, pools, and resort amenities, in alignment with Hyatt and Thompson brand standards. This position reports directly to the Hotel's Managing Director and a member of the properties Leadership Committee.
This senior leader serves as a strategic partner to hotel leadership, corporate engineering, and ownership, managing preventive maintenance, life-safety programs, capital projects, and vendor relationships. The Director of Facilities is hands-on, solutions-driven, and responsive, with the ability to troubleshoot in real time and lead a high-performing team in a dynamic luxury resort environment. This leader also is responsible for high level coordination of all retail leased spaces on campus.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and direction for all engineering, maintenance, and life-safety operations throughout the resort, including guest rooms, public areas, pools, parking areas, and exterior spaces
• Maintain the overall appearance, functionality, and reliability of all building systems, ensuring minimal guest impact and maximum operational uptime
• Lead preventive maintenance programs and monthly safety inspections; ensure compliance with OSHA, local, state, and federal regulations
• Oversee proper pool operations and water quality management, supporting risk management and guest safety
• Respond to emergency situations as needed, serving as the primary engineering point of contact
• Partner with Corporate Engineering on capital expenditures, renovations, remodels, and long-term asset planning
• Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and utilities, including reviewing and negotiating agreements and ensuring service level adherence
• Prepare and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and cost-control initiatives; track expenses and capital project progress
• Support opening property initiatives, transitions, and special projects, collaborating with ownership, designers, contractors, and consultants
• Interpret and communicate construction plans, specifications, and contract terms to internal teams and external partners
• Ensure compliance with all building codes and regulations; interface with building inspectors, code officials, zoning authorities, and design review boards as required
• Oversee equipment specification, purchasing, and lifecycle management
• Lead, train, coach, and develop the facilities team to reflect Hyatt service culture, safety standards, and operational excellence
• Maintain clear and consistent communication with hotel leadership and corporate partners

This is an exempt (salaried) role. The budgeted salary range for this position is $116,000 - $180,000 (this position is eligible for Incentive Compensation paid annually and not included in the salary range). This is the pay range for this position that Thompson Palm Springs reasonably expects to pay . Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors including experience and education.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Technical Expertise
• Comprehensive knowledge of hotel and resort engineering operations, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and pool systems
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a high-volume, guest-centric environment
• Experience managing utility systems and sustainability initiatives preferred
• Proven leadership experience within a luxury or lifestyle hotel or resort environment required
• 6-10+ years or more of progressive hotel leadership experience
• Service oriented style with professional presentations skills
• At least 6 years' experience in a senior role within hotel facility management
• Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service and ability effectively manage department financials
• Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English
• Must be proficient or savvy in Microsoft office, building management systems, pms systems
• Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
