Cedar Falls Utilities is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Energy Services Manager to lead key account relationships, oversee energy efficiency and beneficial electrification programs (EV), and support the economic growth of the Cedar Falls Community. This leadership role blends technical expertise, customer engagement, and program management, making it ideal for candidates who want meaningful work that strengthens both utility operations and community impact.
The Energy Services Manager reports to the Director of Energy Resources and leads a team responsible for delivering innovative energy efficiency programs, managing major commercial and industrial relationships, and supporting economic development with the City of Cedar Falls. This position collaborates across CFU departments, works closely with city leadership and external stakeholders, and plays a vital role in shaping programs that improve reliability, affordability and sustainability for customers. This position provides strategic direction and works closely with the Director of Energy Resources to advance CFU's mission to provide innovative, high-quality services that brings the most value to our community.

Competitive market-based compensation. Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications. Salary range is $123,646 - $162,507. Starting salary will be within $123,646 - $141,310.
Hybrid flexibility - eligible for up to 40% remote work based upon operational needs. Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm and required to respond after-hours during outages affecting key accounts.

Requirements
Responsibilities:
Leadership and People Management
Foster a culture of customer focus, employee teamwork, personal growth, ethical & responsible behavior and innovation.
Coordinate employee work schedules and calendars to ensure appropriate coverage. Cover absences as necessary or when call volume is high, such as outage situations.
Responsible for recruitment, retention, performance and engagement of employees.
Develop employees through effective training and onboarding programs, documentation, coaching and 1:1 meetings.
Ensure all practices are consistent with established employee policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and local, state, and federal employment regulations. Collaborate with Employee & Legal Services to maintain compliance and support a fair, equitable, legal & ethical workplace.
Key Account Management & Customer Service
Serve as the primary point of contact for major commercial and industrial customers.
Assist businesses with load management, service reliability, expansions, DER/EV integration, and billing questions.
Provide proactive communication during outages, including after-hours response to major customer impacts.
Energy Efficiency & Rebate Program Management
Lead the design, improvement, and delivery of CFU’s energy efficiency, demand side management and beneficial electrification programs.
Evaluate new program opportunities, direct rebate processing, and ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Oversee technical assessments, energy modeling, and engineering analyses performed by Energy Services Engineer and third-party vendors.
Coordinate annual program updates and collaborate with marketing.
Community & Economic Development
Serve as CFU’s liaison to the City of Cedar Falls and economic development partners.
Provide utility expertise for business attraction, retention, and expansion.
Represent CFU at community meetings, committees, and public events as needed.
Plan Reviews & Code Compliance
Review commercial and industrial building plans for compliance with IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, and other applicable energy codes.
Collaborate with designers and contractors to resolve compliance issues.
Budgeting, Vendor Management & Reporting
Develop and manage the Energy Services department annual operating budget.
Oversee contracts, R&D collaboration with local and state universities, and vendor relationships.
Prepare reports and updates for internal leadership, CFU’s Board of Trustees, and community partners.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of six years of experience in energy efficiency program management, renewable energy, building systems, or related technical fields.
Demonstrated leadership experience.
Strong knowledge of energy efficient technologies, building systems, and utility operations.
Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional certifications such as CEM, ASHRAE, IECC, BEAP, or P.E. (CFU funds certification and renewal costs).
Experience working in a municipal utility, public power environment, or with commercial/industrial energy users.
Experience with energy modeling tools, C2M billing systems, Demand Side Management Programs, or DER/EV program support.
Background supporting economic development or major account management.
Physical Tasks & Environmental Conditions
This role is primarily office based with regular field visits to customer sites. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather, electrical equipment environments, or construction settings may occur. Some lifting (10–40 lbs) and periodic afterhours outage communication is required. Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
