JOB TITLE: Engagement Officer
POSITION LOCATION: Albuquerque, New Mexico
SUPERVISED BY: Sr. Director of Engagement and Advocacy
STATUS: Regular, Full-Time
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $50,000-$55,000

This position is grant funded and the salary range is not negotiable. Employee may be considered for annual merit increases depending on organizational budget.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Engagement Officer is responsible for working directly with college and university, professional, and tribal chapters to create and or increase Indigenous student support systems on campuses, in affiliated schools, and when applicable, community centers, and/or tribal nations. We hope to build a more visible bridge of student and professional success supports from AISES to the chapters and their members, and in many cases the campuses and communities where they exist. The overall goal is to help Indigenous students and professionals to be successful in their STEM educational and/or career pursuits. This will involve the creation of advocacy campaigns, at the direction of the Sr. Director of Engagement and Advocacy, for campuses, higher education leadership, and communities that are unfamiliar with Indigenous peoples, their innate need to maintain tribal identities, and their educational needs as articulated by the students and professionals. Information on AISES may need to be presented to professional and tribal communities as part of this advocacy effort. AISES strives to build supportive and respectful environments that reflect Indigenous students’ and professionals’ unique needs and cultural backgrounds to assist them while they are pursuing STEM degrees or building and enhancing their careers. Knowledge of higher education administration and familiarity with departments working on campuses to support Indigenous students is critical, experience working with campus administrative leaders is preferred.
To work toward these goals, the Engagement Officer will work closely with to strengthen their presence on campuses and their relationships with AISES. This will be done using resources such as webinars, handbooks, and conference sessions. Additional resources will be created by the Engagement Officer in consultation with the chapters. Resource creation and dissemination of this work will be ongoing. The Engagement Officer will also grow the numbers of chapters through strategic outreach efforts as well as build the infrastructure around the AISES network of professional and tribal chapters and K-12 affiliate schools. This is a critical area of the Engagement Officer’s work. The expectation will be to develop outreach and communication strategies utilizing phone calls, e-mails, virtual and in-person meetings and plans to effectively recruit participation in AISES chapter, events, and programs. The Engagement Officer will help plan annual regional conferences for the seven regions of AISES.
Additionally, this position will work in concert with the Membership Officer to build AISES membership, and the participation in all programmatic opportunities including AISES events such as Leadership Summit and National Conference. This will mean working collaboratively with the Programs and Events Departments. The Engagement Officer is responsible for the management of program deliverables, evaluation, reporting and adherence to budgets, and a wide variety of associated administrative and managerial duties that require excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work programs and projects in accordance with AISES policies and .
The Engagement Officer must participate in organizational meetings and events. Reliable attendance and punctuality are mandatory.
This position will require passion and experience in supporting students and professionals to be successful, as well as creative thinking. The ideal candidate will have a strong motivation to reach out to others, facilitate engagement, and to provide resources.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee all aspects of chapter start up and sustainability for college/university chapters, professional chapters, and tribal chapters.
- In consultation with chapters, create needed resources, including but not limited to handbooks, webinars, videos, and presentations. When necessary, work with consultants to complete resource requirements.
- Work with appropriate university departments, affiliated schools (K-12, tribal schools, tribal education departments), and if applicable, community centers, to create support systems for students and professionals.
- Use creative outreach strategies to identify and connect with K-12 schools, colleges, universities, tribal schools, and students to encourage participation in AISES opportunities.
- Serve as the staff Liaison for the Professional Chapter Council and assist with the council projects.
- Build, develop, and maintain all relationships vital to the success of AISES.
- Advocate for Indigenous people and supporting environments from which to pursue their educational and career goals.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to plan and deliver programs and annual events.
- Represent AISES in a knowledge and professional manner during programs, conferences, events, and other activities as assigned.
- Responsible for developing, completing, and/or assisting with programmatic evaluation and reporting.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA or BS is required.
- As noted, experience building and managing relationships with colleges and/or universities required.
- Experience in outreach and communication efforts required.
- Experience in managing and developing grants, budgets, and programs, including evaluation, and reporting preferred.
- Proficiency in computer operations and use of software, including MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint& Access), online application management systems, communication tools/applications, social media tools, and other databases and software is required.
- Experience with databases and other related tracking systems is preferred.
- Understanding and sensitivity to Indigenous history and culture and an awareness of the role and importance of traditional culture in contemporary Indigenous communities. Additionally, knowledge of the history of Indigenous people in higher education and familiarity with tribal colleges is preferred.
