Description
Global Gardens is currently seeking an experienced, self-motivated teaching professional to fill the role of full-time Garden Educator. The ideal candidate will be goal-oriented and interested in leadership opportunities and professional growth.
About Us: Through garden-centered science and peace education, Global Gardens cultivates self-directed learners and agents of community change. Our holistic model teaches students about science, peace, health, and the environment, while challenging them to be caring, engaged community members. As our students plan and cultivate their gardens, they grow the confidence and skills to create positive changes in their lives and the world around them. We currently offer a range of garden-based programming for 3,500 students (grades preK-6) and families at 13 Tulsa-area sites. Position Description: Reporting to and in partnership with the Program Director (PD), the Garden Educator develops and facilitates a year-long program of inquiry-based, garden-focused science and peace education that fosters learning engagement, confidence, problem solving and social skills, self-regulation, healthy eating, and student empowerment.

Requirements
Essential Responsibilities:
Works with the PD to plan and implement year-round garden-focused instruction for during-school, after-school, summer, and/or family programs.
Designs appropriate lessons that incorporate student-led and inquiry-based teaching strategies.
Encourages student enthusiasm for and ownership of the learning process.
Supports and manages student events and community projects.
Facilitates seed-to-plate experiences for participants.
Manages garden spaces at assigned sites.
Communicates and collaborates effectively with families, school representatives and community partners.
Oversees the activities of site-based volunteers, interns and Assistant Educators.
Creates and updates lesson plans and curriculum materials.
Ensures that program sites (gardens and classrooms) reflect the Global Gardens philosophy.
Tracks program attendance, dosage, quality, and outcomes using database and approved assessment tools.
Partners with GG administrative team to support fundraising and marketing initiatives, including events, tours, social media campaigns, and donor stewardship activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, additional education a plus
At least three years of experience working with at-risk children
Commitment to student-led and inquiry-based learning
Ability to motivate, support, and collaborate with staff and volunteers
Excellent time management skills and flexibility in meeting scheduling needs
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Commitment to organic gardening and sustainability
Commitment to peaceful and positive conflict resolution
Commitment to children’s well-being and belief in their ability to impact our communities and our world
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Knowledge of communities served and Spanish language proficiency a plus
Schedule:
Must be able to drive to different program sites as needed
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include early morning or evening hours
Must be able to work occasional weekend days (typically one per month)
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods standing, walking, stretching, bending, kneeling, and pulling.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Must be physically able to use garden tools and operate power equipment.
Must be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
