What You'll Do
In this role, you will independently support germline genetic testing and clinical consultation across the health system by:
- Reviewing and screening germline genetic test orders to ensure appropriate utilization
- Assessing clinical, family, and social histories to guide testing decisions
- Interpreting genetic test results and communicating findings to physicians and allied health professionals
- Recommending alternative testing strategies based on clinical risk, benefit, and cost considerations
- Supporting insurance authorization and outpatient genetic testing workflows
- Providing genetic consultation services to healthcare providers
- Educating clinicians, learners, and laboratory staff on genetic diseases and risk assessment
- Participating in resident education and academic teaching activities
- Engaging in scholarly activity, research, or publication to support academic appointment and continued professional development

Qualifications
Required
- Master of Science in Genetic Counseling
- Certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)
- Ability to obtain ABGC certification within one year of hire (if eligible)
Preferred
- 0-2 years of clinical or laboratory genetic counseling experience
- Graduate-level laboratory rotation or laboratory-focused training
- Experience with germline genetic testing and test utilization
Licensure
- Texas State Genetic Counselor licensure required once available/appropriate following certification
Work Environment
- Primarily laboratory-based with occasional travel to University Health outpatient laboratory locations
- Academic, collaborative, and multidisciplinary setting
- Fast-paced environment requiring independent judgment, attention to detail, and clinical discretion
