Overview
As a Materials Testing Technician, you'll play a critical role in supporting the Construction Services group by performing field and laboratory tests on construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This position involves collecting samples at job sites, conducting standardized tests, preparing detailed reports, and communicating findings to engineers and project managers. The technician works closely with construction teams to monitor quality control, identify potential issues, and contribute to the safe and successful execution of civil infrastructure projects. Strong attention to detail, familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO procedures, and a commitment to safety and accuracy are essential for success in this role.
Consor Engineers is hiring multiple Material Testers for this project, with an estimated 50-60 hours per week and lasting 2-4 years. In addition, employees will be authorized $180 per day in onsite per diem.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field and laboratory testing of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates to verify compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
 - Collect, prepare, and document material samples from active construction sites, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of test results.
 - Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and contractors to support quality assurance and resolve material-related issues during construction.
 - Maintain testing equipment, follow safety protocols, and adhere to ASTM, AASHTO, and other relevant procedures and guidelines.
 
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; an associate degree or coursework in civil engineering, construction technology, or materials science is preferred.
 - 12 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical fieldwork, or a related role within civil engineering or construction services.
 - Entry-level certifications such as ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, NICET Level I in Construction Materials Testing, or equivalent are highly desirable.
 - Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO testing standards, ability to read construction plans/specs, strong attention to detail, basic computer proficiency for reporting, and effective communication skills.
 - Valid Texas Drivers License
