- Network Engineer - TDM Elimination (7+ Years)
Description
Pivotal Point, LLC is a specialized federal IT consulting firm focused on network engineering, integration, and modernization efforts that support mission critical Department of Defense customers. We deliver highly reliable, secure, and scalable network solutions across the DoDIN/DISN.
The Network Engineer – TDM Elimination will support DISA’s GSMO II program by helping eliminate legacy Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) infrastructure and migrate services to modern Ethernetbased transport across the DoDIN/DISN. This role focuses on sitelevel engineering, circuit migration, and decommissioning activities in environments with fiberoptic transport, circuit emulation, and legacy Promina/SONET technologies.
- Identify, develop, and implement strategies to eliminate legacy interfaces (e.g., RS 232/RS 530, SONET) and migrate services to Ethernet.
- Engineer and support removal of Optical Digital Cross Connect (ODXC), Multi Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP), and ADTRAN multiplexers, using circuit emulation devices to translate TDM traffic to Ethernet.
- Produce site specific engineering deliverables, including: which sites require circuit emulation, target solutions, Ethernet conversion approach, J PE connectivity, equipment configurations, and build outs.
- Identify network dependencies such as bandwidth upgrades, port capacity expansion, and related transport constraints.
- Develop Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and transition priorities for site and circuit cutovers; provide engineering support to provisioning and implementation teams.
- Conduct site surveys and develop associated bills of material (power, grounding, racks, cabling, DCN, etc.) to support implementation and decommissioning activities.
- Analyze requirements and identify engineering, design, and process gaps; propose and present Courses of Action.
- Support planning and engineering of advanced transport networks leveraging state of the art technologies for a secure, highly available DoD global network.
- Prepare and deliver technical briefings, participate in technical meetings with DISA, and provide technical reviews of configuration and network documentation.
- Track project schedules and milestones, identify critical path tasks and risks, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to keep transitions on schedule.
- Compile and update architecture diagrams; assist in developing a comprehensive Ethernet services and network operations strategy.
- Support DISN IP Optimization and related integration efforts as a senior network engineering resource, ensuring end to end solution integration.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in service delivery, cycle times, and cost reduction through proactive customer engagement and planning.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of handson network engineering experience in large service provider or enterprise environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, IT, or related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Strong experience with transport and WAN technologies, including TDM, SONET/SDH, and Ethernet.
- Practical experience with circuit emulation / CircuittoPacket devices and SerialtoIP edge adaptation in migration contexts.
- Demonstrated experience engineering and implementing sitelevel network changes (device selection, configurations, MOPs, cutover support).
- Proficiency with routing and switching (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS, QoS) and integration with provider edge routers (JPE or equivalent).
- Experience conducting site surveys and developing bills of material for network deployments.
- Strong documentation and diagramming skills (e.g., Visio) and experience preparing technical briefings for leadership/customers.
- Ability to work onsite at Ft. Meade or at Scott AFB, IL and collaborate with government, prime, and subcontractor teams.
- Active Secret clearance (or higher).
Desired Qualifications
- Top Secret/SCI eligibility or active TS/SCI.
- Experience supporting DISA, DoD networks (DoDIN/DISN), or similar federal transport modernization efforts.
- Familiarity with Promina, SONET/OTN, SEANet, CTP, and Next Generation Transport Edge (NGT E) devices.
