All candidates must have a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related discipline.
Position Summary
The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia invites applications for one position with expertise in smart sensors, microelectronic devices and systems, hardware for engineering applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. The College seeks qualified applicants to fill one open rank, 9-month tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This position will be centered in the College of Engineering's School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) and will be supervised by the School Chair of ECE. This position willbegin on August 1, 2026, and will be an academic-year appointment with an opportunity to supplement salary during the summer.
Application areas of interest include precision agriculture, applied electromagnetics, wireless signal processing, advanced manufacturing, electric mobility and integration of AI into the practice of Electrical & Computer Engineering.
The focus of this hiring initiative will be in the three areas of current need within the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering including:
- Sensor development including but not limited to microelectronic, solid state sensors, RF sensors, sensors based on advanced applications of electromagnetics, and wireless signal processing for sensing systems.
- Microelectronic devices and systems with particular interests in embedded systems with applications advance manufacturing applications, electric mobility, robotics and automation of agricultural.
- Hardware for AI Systems with a focus on development/deployment of next generation hardware that enables deployment of AI into modern engineered systems where power and communication bandwidth critical design parameters.
The ideal candidate is expected to work collaboratively with existing faculty at the University of Georgia, including faculty in cross-cutting units such as the new Institute for Integrative Precision Agriculture, the Advance Manufacturing and Innovation Factory, the Georgia Network for E-Mobility and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, among others.
The new faculty member will be expected to develop a vigorous, high-impact, externally funded research program; work closely with other members recently hired to these research clusters and existing faculty; effectively mentor graduate students and postdoctoral scientists; and effectively support our teaching mission at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Additional Requirements
Candidates considered for the associate professor rank must have qualifications and academic credentials commensurate with the promotion and tenure guidelines at the University of Georgia.
Candidates must also have a documented research background appropriate for the appointment rank, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, in the application of RF sensors, controls or robotics in application that include precision agriculture, advanced manufacturing or electric mobility. To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.

This position seeks to identify highly qualified candidates with expertise at the intersection of sensors, microelectronics and hardware for future engineering applications of AI with a research focus in current areas of high societal impact including precision agriculture, advanced manufacturing, electric mobility and the development of AI tools that advance the practice of electical & computer engineering.
Building on its areas of key research strength, the College invites applicants with research interests in topics associated with RF sensor development, microelectronic devices and systems, hardware for engineering applications of AI systems. The ideal candidate also has interests that support application of their research expertise in areas of strength within the UGA College of Engineering including Integrative Precision Agriculture, Advanced Manufacturing or Electric Mobility.
