Position Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Work, Health, and Computational Social Science
Location: Z-CAFE and Department of Sociology, Yale University, New Haven, CT
Position Description:
The Computational Aging, Family, and Evidence Lab (Z-CAFE) and Department of Sociology at Yale University, under the supervision of Professor Emma Zang, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow contributing to cutting-edge research on how contemporary social and economic environments, including flexible work arrangements and caregiving demands, shape health and well-being across the life course. The fellow will engage in rigorous empirical research leveraging experimental or quasi-experimental designs, advanced causal inference, and computational methods such as machine learning and large language models (LLMs).
The position offers rich opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with the Yale School of Public Health, the School of Medicine, the Institution for Social and Policy Studies, and other research centers across campus.
Responsibilities:
Conduct empirical research on topics at the intersection of work, family, and health
Apply innovative research methods (e.g., natural experiments, field experiments, causal inference)
Employ computational tools (e.g., ML/LLMs) to analyze large-scale survey, administrative, or text-based data
Publish in leading scientific journals and present at national and international conferences
Contribute to grant proposals, project coordination, and mentorship of student researchers
Qualifications:
PhD in Sociology, Public Policy, Economics, Public Health, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related field
Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in R, Python, or Stata
Experience with causal inference, experimental methods, computational social science, or related approaches (preferred)
Demonstrated strong writing skills and publication record or potential
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
Term and Compensation:
Initial one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for an additional 1–2 years, contingent on performance and funding
