Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. The Pit Technologies Division supports the nation’s nuclear deterrence mission through advanced manufacturing and production capabilities. We are seeking a Project Leader at Level 1 or Level 2 to manage production planning and discrete projects that support division goals. This is a regular, onsite role in Los Alamos, NM, with salary ranges as follows:
- Project Leader 1: $80,400 – $127,900
- Project Leader 2: $96,600 – $158,000
Responsibilities for Project Leader 1:
- Translate programmatic requirements into actionable project plans in collaboration with internal customers and program managers
- Develop work breakdown structures and project plans to support production planning and operational goals
- Assist with or independently lead smaller projects while contributing to larger initiatives under guidance
- Coordinate work across multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
- Track project scope, schedule, and performance while supporting baseline management and reporting activities
- Ensure project work aligns with Laboratory priorities for safety, security, quality, and operational excellence
Additional Responsibilities for Project Leader 2:
- Independently manage moderately complex projects with full accountability for scope, schedule, and budget performance
- Lead mid-sized project teams and coordinate work across multiple organizations and stakeholders
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain progress and project success
- Serve as a primary point of contact for project status, issues, and resolution with senior managers and stakeholders
- Negotiate resources, work packages, and priorities with line and program managers
- Integrate project execution with broader Laboratory commitments while exercising sound judgment under limited direction
Qualifications
Project Leader 1:
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, or a related field from an accredited institution and 2+ years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of project management principles including planning, work breakdown structures, work packages, and baseline management
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust, gain consensus, and resolve issues
- Understanding of manufacturing resource planning concepts
- Knowledge of regulatory, safety, and Laboratory requirements
Project Leader 2:
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, or a related field from an accredited institution and 5+ years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience independently managing moderately complex projects
- Proven ability to lead mid-sized teams and integrate project work across multiple organizational priorities
- Experience identifying project risks and implementing mitigation strategies
- Ability to report project performance and issues to senior management under limited direction
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with cross-functional stakeholders
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency with project management and data analysis tools such as MS Project and MS Excel
- Production planning management training or certification (e.g., CPIMS)
- Project management training or certification (e.g., PMI PMP)
- Experience coordinating with procurement, contracting, or external partners
- Familiarity with laboratory, government, or federally funded project environments
- Experience with manufacturing or production work planning and scheduling
