We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting the Habitable Worlds Observatory project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. At GSFC, Aerodyne Industries provides engineering services for the branches within the Mechanical Systems Division of the GSFC Applied Engineering and Technology Directorate (AETD) as well as for many flight projects.
Role includes the following duties in support of Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) project at NASA GSFC:
- Review Observatory architecture designs for early concepts and provide feedback and recommendations to the systems and discipline design teams related to overall architecture, key interfaces, mechanical packaging, and subsystem designs and implementations
- Participate in recurring design team meetings and reviews
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution in mechanical engineering or related field with minimum 20 years of experience in mechanical engineering
- Demonstrated experience with CAD modeling at the component, subsystem, and system levels to support early concept development and trade study activities
- Demonstrated experience in the design formulation of large space telescopes throughout the mission lifecycle (early concept development through post-CDR); familiarity with LUIVOIR-A and/or LUVOIR-B design formulations preferred
- Proficiency with CAD software tool/s
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues (written and oral)
