Senior Production Planner (Material Planner, III)

Position Summary
The Senior Production Planner is a key operational leader and cross-functional liaison between Purchasing, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Program Management. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining an executable production schedule for the Williamsport site, ensuring alignment with customer demand, material availability, and capacity constraints. The senior planner drives planning accuracy, leads cross-functional reviews, anticipates risk, and proactively mitigates schedule, material, and capacity issues.
The senior planner serves as a subject-matter expert in material planning, MRP functionality, production flow, risk mitigation, and is expected to influence process improvements and support long-term planning strategies. The role also contributes to both short- and mid-range planning horizons and provides data inputs to long-range capacity planning and SIOP review.
Advanced Planning & Scheduling
- Owns detailed production planning for assigned customers to evaluate and execute production planning in alignment with the Master Scheduler and other stakeholders in Operations and Purchasing.
- Analyzes customer forecasts, demand patterns, and production capabilities to create optimized production plans that support on-time delivery and inventory objectives.
- Independently evaluates constraints, identifies risks, and adjusts schedules proactively to maintain operational readiness.
Cross-Functional Administration
- Drive weekly material review meetings for assigned customers, clearly communicating shortages, priorities, risks, and mitigation actions to Manufacturing, Program Management, Engineering, and Purchasing.
- Acts as the primary planning escalation point for schedule conflicts, material delays, and capacity issues, driving resolution across multiple functions.
- Provides guidance and mentorship to entry-level and mid-level planners as needed.
Material & Work Order Management
- Oversees work order release strategies to ensure material readiness, appropriate build sequencing, and capacity alignment.
- Partners with Purchasing to manage long-lead procurement risks and address supply constraints impacting the master planning schedule (MPS).
- Identifies and resolves excess, obsolete, and end-of-life (EOL) material issues through structured analysis and cross-functional coordination.
Data & Systems Expertise
- Utilizes advanced skills in ERP systems to monitor material flow, identify discrepancies, and improve data accuracy.
- Performs root cause analysis on planning-related issues and drives corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Develops and maintains KPI dashboards related to scheduling attainment, material availability, on-time work order release, and capacity utilization.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommends and implements process enhancements to strengthen planning accuracy, improve scheduling efficiency, and reduce material risk.
- Participates in cross-functional improvement teams related to supply chain optimization, inventory management, and planning best practices.
- Provides accurate planning data and insights to support SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning) inputs, activities, and cross-functional reviews.
Additional Responsibilities
- Attends production status and program review meetings as required.
- Uses online material ordering tools and supports digital system improvements.
- Exercises sound judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and criteria for planning decisions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Safety
Ensure all assignments are performed in compliance with applicable Federal, State, Provincial, and Company safety and health regulations, using proper personal protective equipment where required.
Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred; Associate degree required.
Experience
- Seven (7) or more years of progressive experience in production planning, scheduling, or material management, preferably in electronics manufacturing, EMS, PCBA, or aerospace/defense environments.
- Demonstrated success managing complex product mix, long-lead materials, and constrained capacity environments.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Expert-level proficiency in ERP/MRP planning systems (experience with complex BOMs, lot-controlled material, and serialized builds preferred).
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Ability to interpret engineering documentation, understand production routing, and evaluate capacity constraints.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to anticipate risks and drive solutions.
