GMC is seeking a motivated Senior Traffic Engineer for our Birmingham, AL office. This individual will oversee and produce the design of signing and striping, traffic control, traffic signals, traffic signal timing, traffic signal and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). This position is expected to prepare project reports, plans, specifications, estimates, grant applications, progress reports and other technical documents. Senior Traffic Engineers also perform traffic and transportation analysis, and design.

Essential functions and responsibilities include:
Technical Responsibilities
- Develops and reviews plans, specifications and estimates for traffic signal systems, illumination, signing and striping, and traffic control. Professionally designs and seals traffic engineering projects and supports other professionals doing design work.
- Designs and directs special traffic studies, including traffic impact studies, capacity analysis, traffic count inventories, traffic signals and signal systems, access management plans and other related traffic problems.
- Works with private developers, governmental entities and other professionals. Reviews engineering and development plans for Traffic Engineering issues.
Client and Customer focus
- Ensures projects adhere to GMC's quality control and assurance standards
- Represents GMC standards, Core values, and the firm's reputation to employees, clients, and communities
Teamwork and Communication (10%)

- Collaborate with sub-consultants and project team members

Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience applying traffic engineering principles and practices, including conducting Traffic Impact Studies, capacity analysis, trip generation, and traffic signal/signal system timing analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Alabama.
- Strong client service and relationship management skills, with the ability to maintain and grow existing client partnerships.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and team members at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and meeting competing deadlines.
Travel Expectation
- This position requires extensive travel across the state. Primarily daytime travel.
