Explore oncology and focus your future with world-renowned scientists! This program offers in-person, mentored, high-quality, cancer-focused research experiences, along with professional development workshops, to undergraduate and first-year medical students, preparing them for careers in science, medicine, and other cancer-related fields. When you participate in a summer internship at IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, you’ll work directly with a mentor physician or researcher conducting studies in the most progressive areas of cancer research. You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of basic science, translational, and clinical research activities—and you’ll have great experiences and references to add to your CV.
- Train one-on-one in the lab of an accomplished cancer researcher.
- Network with and learn from other students, clinical and post-doctoral fellows, and faculty.
- Shadowing a physician-scientist mentor in the clinic (medical student trainees only).
- Attend insightful workshops and career development events.
- Receive a stipend payment, housing, and other benefits.
- 10-week-long summer internships from May 26 to July 30, 2026.
The application opens on November 15, 2025, and closes on January 31, 2026.
