SUNY PRODIG Plus Fellow in Chemistry
Location: Department of Chemistry, Stony Brook University, NY
Open Date: Feb 23, 2026
Deadline: Apr 16, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time
Description
The Department of Chemistry at Stony Brook University seeks to hire a SUNY Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Growth plus (PRODiG+) Fellow at the Lecturer level to begin in Fall 2026.
The PRODiG Plus Fellowship is designed with two primary goals: (1) increase the number and share of excellent and diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of these candidates. More information about the fellowship is available at https://www.suny.edu/prodig-plus/fellowship/.
Candidates in various fields and sub-disciplines of chemistry, including both experimentalists and theorists, will be considered. The new faculty member is expected to establish a vibrant, extramurally funded research program that synergizes with existing chemistry faculty and contributes to Stony Brook University's strategic priorities in artificial intelligence, global health, quantum information science, and climate science. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field, a demonstrated record of excellence in innovative research, and a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate chemistry. The fellowship is for a 12-month appointment for two years, with the goal of conversion to a tenure-track assistant professorship at the conclusion of the fellowship.
Stony Brook University has a long-standing commitment to access and a record of attracting a broad student body, and the university has been recognized nationally for a high upward social mobility index, moving students from the lowest quintile of parental income to the top quintile of graduate income. We seek applicants whose aptitude and enthusiasm for research, teaching, and service will prepare them to contribute to our institutional mission to educate and train a broad student population. Research in the Department of Chemistry is highly interdisciplinary, and faculty with interests in materials particularly benefit from close interactions with nearby Brookhaven National Lab (BNL), which provides state-of-the-art facilities for research in chemistry, nanoscience, and energy, including the Center for Functional Nanomaterials and the National Synchrotron Light Source II. Centers and institutes that promote interdisciplinary research include the Institute for Chemical Biology & Drug Discovery, the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology, the Institute for Advanced Computational Science, DOE-funded Energy Frontier Research Centers on synthesis science and energy storage, the Center for Advanced Technology in Integrated Electric Energy Systems, and the Center for Advanced Study of Drug Action. The Department also has a strong history of excellence in graduate student mentoring. The NIH-funded Chemistry-Biology Interface Training Program and NSF-funded Research Traineeship program in quantitative analysis of materials provide additional mechanisms for graduate student training and connectivity.
