Position Overview
The American University of Armenia (AUA) invites applications for the William Frazer Endowed Named Professorship, a full-time faculty position open to distinguished scholars in science and engineering, broadly construed. The position may be housed in any of AUA’s four Colleges and is open to candidates whose work spans disciplinary boundaries, including scholars whose research bridges scientific, technical, and policy domains.
AUA is engaged in an ambitious process of strategic development aimed at strengthening its academic programs, research profile, and societal impact in Armenia, the region, and beyond. In support of these goals, AUA seeks a highly accomplished scholar with a strong record of research leadership, scholarly publication, and external funding, and with demonstrated capacity to contribute to institutional development through research and collaboration through AUA’s research centers.
The appointment will be made at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor for a renewable three- or five-year term. The anticipated start date is August 15 (year negotiable).

The William Frazer Endowed Named Professorship was established in honor of Professor William Frazer, a physicist who served as Chairman of the Board of AUA, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs for the University of California system, Acting Provost of UC San Diego’s Third College, and research scientist at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership in research and scholarship, including the development and stewardship of externally funded research programs
- Develop and sustain a well-defined, high-impact research agenda with national and international visibility
- Secure competitive external research funding and provide leadership in the pursuit of major grants and sponsored projects
- Foster interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration across Colleges and research centers
- Contribute to research capacity-building through collaborative initiatives with AUA faculty
- Engage in scholarly and outreach activities that advance AUA’s mission and societal impact
- Teaching responsibilities, if any, will be determined in alignment with the candidate’s appointment research profile, and College norms
Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant discipline and demonstrated preparation for senior academic leadership and university service
- An internationally recognized record of scholarly excellence and intellectual leadership, as evidenced by sustained publication
- A demonstrated ability to secure, direct, and steward externally funded research programs
- Capacity to establish, lead, and sustain a research group, as well as to pursue independent scholarly inquiry
- A demonstrated commitment to transdisciplinary collaboration
Compensation
AUA offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with qualifications and experience. For successful international candidates, the package includes housing support, relocation assistance, reimbursement for home visits, and standard employment benefits.
Requirement
This full-time position requires the incumbent to reside in Armenia.
