Description

We are currently seeking an Ammonia Refrigeration Coordinator.

Salary based on experience and qualifications.

Ensures safety and efficiency by inspecting and ensuring proper maintenance of all Knouse Foods ammonia refrigeration equipment. Generates maintenance procedures and checklists and reviews logs/reports. Trains employees on basic ammonia refrigeration equipment operation. Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and standards. Consults on engineering issues related to ammonia refrigeration equipment. Functions as a member of the 24-hour emergency ammonia response team.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

1. Anticipates Organization’s refrigeration safety, health concerns and hazards by following trends and alerts from seminars, equipment trade shows, and publications.

2. Investigates for compliance by reviewing OSHA government regulations related to refrigeration equipment. Ensure Knouse compliance with OSHA regulations. Alerts management and proactively prepares for changing regulations.

3. Maintains equipment by regularly conducting inspections of refrigeration equipment located in Knouse plants. Check on preventive and general maintenance work and takes various process parameter measurements. Inspects compressors and other related refrigeration equipment as needed. Investigates manufacturers for supply of refrigeration equipment parts and recommends to plant maintenance managers preferred equipment suppliers. Assists in planning off-season refrigeration equipment repair schedules.

4. Resolves refrigeration issues ranging from difficult to routine by providing consultation on all refrigeration equipment: controlled atmosphere storage; cold storage; freezers; juice cooling and all ammonia systems company-wide. Coordinates with plant maintenance managers and mechanics to identify, investigate, and implement solutions.

5. Maintains safety by developing written Standard Operating Procedures and checklists for refrigeration system activities, distributing to plant maintenance managers, and reviewing with operators. Reviews refrigeration operator logs, checklists, and process control parameter printouts. Reviews plant ammonia test procedures and test reports. Initiates corrective action for any abnormal conditions noted.

6. Protects assets and employee safety by inspecting and testing sprinkler valve systems yearly; reviewing monthly test reports of plant fire alarm testing for all Knouse facilities and acting as a liaison with external security and sprinkler system companies to arrange for service.

7. Provides emergency support by serving as a member of the 24-hour emergency ammonia response team, on call for response to ammonia related emergencies.

8. Ensures trained personnel by conducting training seminars for new employees, supervisors and refrigeration operators on basic refrigeration equipment operation covering basic refrigeration theory and safe operation of equipment.

9. Assists in engineering projects by reviewing equipment design, specifications and estimating project costs.

10. Maintains historical reference by using a filing system for easy retrieval, maintaining files, and documenting procedures; using computer aided design to keep accurate up-to-date electrical and piping system drawings of refrigeration equipment.

11. Achieves financial objectives by working within budget constraints.

12. Protects the organization by keeping information confidential and disclosing only on a need to know as per company policy. Ensures high ethical standards.

13. Keeps manager and staff informed by advising and updating on information and critical incidents.

14. Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Contributes to the Company effort by continually looking for ways to improve productivity and customer orientation within department by use of better technology, procedures, and use of resources.


Essential knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration and food processing a plus.
  • Knowledge and ability to respond to ammonia related emergencies.
  • Ability to work with engineering mathematical concepts.
  • Strong computer and Microsoft applications software proficiency. Plus Office Project, Auto Cad.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of English, grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, etc. with the ability to write reports, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to read in-depth information and analyze the impact to the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize and use project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate one-on-one and with small groups, to facilitate meetings, listen actively, and to persuade others accept recommendations.
  • Ability to be detail oriented and to ensure accuracy of projects, reports, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
