JOB TITLE: PK-12 Program Manager                       

POSITION LOCATION: Remote Oklahoma (Preferred) / Boulder, CO / Albuquerque, NM 

SUPERVISED BY: Director of PK12 Programs

STATUS: Full-time                          

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SALARY RANGE: $40,000-$50,000 Starting Salary

The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) is a national nonprofit organization focused on substantially increasing the representation of Indigenous peoples of North America and the Pacific Islands in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) studies and careers.

To this end, AISES provides scholarships and internships, workforce development and career resources, national and regional conferences, leadership development, and other STEM focused programming to Indigenous students and professionals.

Position Summary:

The Program Manager for the Student Access and Success PK-12 Department will primarily manage the National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair (NAISEF), including program and participant outreach and recruitment, direct instruction with students, and educator support and training. In addition, this position may provide administrative and programmatic support for other staff in the PK-12 Programs department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides administrative support for NAISEF.
  • As part of the position’s management of NAISEF directly engages with students and teachers to facilitate implementation of NAISEF programming.
  • Travels to partner schools to support teachers and NAISEF event planning.
  • Manages the virtual training and office hours with students and educators.
  • Makes hotel reservations and travel arrangements for NAISEF participants and processes a variety of travel and expense forms.
  • Conduct wide-spread outreach to increase promotion of and participation in NAISEF and other AISES programs.
  • Manages outreach contact database.
  • As needed, provides administrative and programmatic support to Director of PK-12 Programs and all PK12 staff.
  • Prepares and processes purchase requisitions and check requests according to approved procedures.
  • Participates in team planning and implementing AISES events.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of files within AISES cloud-based filing system.
  • Accepts phone calls for program information, takes messages, and responds to general inquiries.
  • Enters and retrieves data, maintains records, and generates reports from various internal systems.
  • Maintains confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS – PROFESSIONAL & EDUCATIONAL:

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two years’ administrative experience to have included involvement with non-profit development and program administration. Previous program management experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products, specifically MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Experience with other web-based applications and databases.
  • Must have strong customer service skills.
  • Thorough understanding and sensitivity to Native American history and culture and an awareness of the role and importance of Native STEM education.

QUALIFICATIONS – SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills for internal and external interactions, correspondence with AISES staff, external vendors, and representatives of tribal, corporate and government organizations. Including the ability to compose emails, letters, or other materials independently or from a rough draft.
  • Must possess strong initiative and be results-oriented.
  • Must be customer-focused and possess strong customer service skills.
  • Dependable and able to focus on details, prioritize and meet project schedules and deadlines.
  • Must be willing and eager to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be enthusiastic, tactful, mature, flexible as well as creative.
  • Must be detail orientated, resourceful, and well organized.
  • Must have a high-energy level.  
  • Travel will be required.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
  • Candidates are required to pass a criminal background check.
  • Candidates must have proof of completed COVID 19 vaccination (s) to be considered for the position.
  • Must be available to attend annual staff retreat. May include sponsored out of town travel and extended working hours.
