The role: 

Join our team and provide performance audit services to agency executives and the Oregon Transportation Commission. This key position serves in a leadership role in managing our internal audit program. The principal internal auditor leads and executes the most comprehensive performance audits that analyze a wide variety of program and policy functions, agency business systems, and mission-critical operations. Our audits reduce risk and provide information to improve the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of department programs, operations, and activities. As a result, this vital position recommends changes that alter the course of the agency. Apply today!

A day in the life:

  • Conduct performance audits that align with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards.

  • Research laws, professional standards and best practices to create audit criteria.

  • Design procedures and analytics to achieve audit goals.

  • Find ways to improve performance and recommend changes for management.

  • Develop reports to present audit analysis and results.

  • Lead an audit team. Advise on audit priorities, scheduling staff and setting audit scopes.

  • Assign and review the work of auditors and other staff involved in audits.

  • Develop office policy, procedure manuals and other training for auditors.

  • Evaluate results of risk assessments and identify and prioritize auditable risks to develop an annual audit plan. Assist chief auditor in developing strategic direction for the office.

  • Work mainly in an office environment, but will be exposed to all working conditions in the agency. There will be an option to telework and work in the office.

Requirements

What we need:

6 years of experience performing professional level auditing, investigations, compliance, policy/program, or work closely related to the agency mission.

OR

A Bachelor’s degree in business-related field such as business or public administration, finance, economics, computer science, accounting; or a field specific to the Agency's mission. AND

3 years of experience performing professional level auditing, investigations, compliance, policy/program, or work closely related to the agency mission.
