Job Description

We are looking for a mid-career environmental scientist or ecologist with a strong background in environmental assessment, evaluation, and reporting to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists and landscape architects working on restoration and natural resource management projects throughout the United States. This position is for a team member in our San Diego office to provide support on data acquisition, management, analysis, and interpretation as well as research, writing, and presentations. The selected candidate will also be expected to collaborate on other aspects of project and business development work.


Required Skills & Experience

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements for consideration: 

  • Master’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Management, or related field (years of experience may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree);
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in ecological risk assessment, environmental permitting, environmental policy, water quality, ecological restoration, or environmental management outside of the academic environment;
  • Prior work experience outside academia lasting at least one year at a single position;
  • Demonstrated experience using Excel and/or GIS for data management, analysis, and interpretation;
  • Demonstrated ability to create high quality graphics, including easily legible maps;
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience presenting technical information to stakeholders in an accessible, clear manner;
  • Ability to work with a client-centered approach;
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and ability to budget workloads; and
  • Adaptable to working well both independently and in a team environment.

 Preferred Skills & Experience (but not required)

Preference may be given to applicants who provide these skills:

  • Environmental litigation strategy and expert witness support;
  • Intermediate proficiency in ArcGIS;
  • Experience with eco-toxicology, Natural Resource Damage Assessments, brownfields, or related work;
  • Experience with ecological modeling;
  • Experience preparing and/or reviewing environmental permits;
  • Site suitability and feasibility assessment to inform restoration or mitigation;
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, CAD, and reading construction documents;
  • Knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Western United States; and
  • Demonstrated experience in networking with regional organizations.
