Description

Responsible for leading the development of commercial instrumentation for mass spectrometry. Responsible for designing and developing novel ion source technology. Conducts experiments to evaluate new technologies. Provides mass spectrometry expertise and guidance, and works with sales, marketing, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful launch of new products. Requires a Ph.D. in Science or Engineering.

  • Initiate, lead, and execute scientific research with an emphasis on developing next generation ion source products
  • Design, simulate, and implement novel ion source technology into an existing MS platform
  • Design and conduct scientific experiments to evaluate new technologies
  • Work with sales, marketing, and manufacturing teams to launch new products
  • Develop and follow product development process consistent with ISO 9001 standards
  • Work with manufacturing and customer service teams to improve quality and cost of products
  • Participate in writing products’ user guides, work instructions, and SOPs
  • Adhere to Newomics’ QMS policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Prepare reports and present in scientific meetings
  • 5% travel as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in mass spectrometry instrument development
  • Solid knowledge of mass spectrometry instrument and theory including electrospray ionization (ESI), ion transmission, RF systems, and ion detectors
  • Extensive experience with electrospray ionization at various flow rates
  • Strong hands-on experience with ion optics design (e.g., ion funnel and ion guide)
  • Experience with 3D CAD mechanical design preferably SolidWorks
  • Experience with ion optics simulation software e.g., COMSOL or SIMION
  • Strong instrumentation design skills and troubleshooting ability
  • Experience with ESI ion source development is a strong plus
  • Highly motivated, a team player, a quick learner, and a problem solver
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship
