RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i Marine Center (UHMC), located at Pier 35 in Honolulu Harbor, Oahu, Hawai‘i. Note: No requirement to live in Hawaii, travel is arranged to and from vessel by UHMC.
Relief position available aboard R/V Kilo Moana (KM), a 186′ SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) vessel conducting oceanographic research operations for the University of Hawaii. 1st Assistant Engineer: Acts as the Chief Engineer’s principal assistant in all matters pertaining to engineering and administration of the Engineering
Department. Acts as the daily foreman of the plant and oversees the performance of routine maintenance and repairs. Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, assigns, directs, and supervises daily work and watch standing of the Engineers in the Department. Completes all scheduled maintenance items and supervises the consumption and purification of fuel, as directed by the Chief Engineer. Performs all other duties that the Chief Engineer directs. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Chief Engineer in the event that the Chief Engineer becomes incapacitated due to sickness or injury. This is a sea-going
ship’s crew working on a rotational schedule based on operational needs.
Requirements
1st Assistant Engineer: Must possess a 1st Assistant Engineer - Motor Propelled Vessels License - Unlimited, Officer In Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW), and a valid USCG STCW Medical Certificate. Must possess a current MMC and required STCW documentation of training and validity for licenses. Valid TWIC and US Passport required. Ability to pass pre-employment drug test or hold current drug testing verification letter. Must be US citizen.
