Associate Civil Engineer
Los Angeles County Public Works is seeking skilled and motivated Associate Civil Engineers to help shape, maintain, and improve the County’s essential infrastructure. About the Role
As an Associate Civil Engineer, you will perform complex and varied civil engineering work in support of major public works programs, including transportation, water resources, building design, land development, and infrastructure operations. You will apply your engineering expertise to plan, design, review, and manage projects that serve millions of County residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply civil engineering principles, methods, and materials to the design and construction of diverse public works projects.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee engineering activities or project teams, ensuring quality, timely progress, and compliance with established standards.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and deliver clear, organized oral presentations to management and stakeholders.
- Conduct engineering research, investigate technical issues, and develop improved methods, procedures, or systems.
- Analyze and prepare contracts and specifications for major projects.
- Serve as resident engineer during construction of bridges and other public works, overseeing staff and recommending needed adjustments.
- Design public works facilities or supervise the development of plans and specifications for projects such as roads, highways, buildings, sewer systems, flood control channels, and traffic signals.
- Review and approve plans submitted by outside engineers for structural integrity and code compliance.
- Determine sewer and sanitary design requirements for new subdivisions.
- Assist with waterworks improvements, long range planning projects, state and federal aid programs, construction materials inspection, and pollution control initiatives.
- Supervise engineering work related to groundwater research, road maintenance, water quality testing, flood control facility operations, and construction related permits.
- Support survey analysis operations, coordinating activities with other divisions and external agencies.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited engineering college or university.
LICENSE:
A valid California State Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer.
