Paid Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Intern

Location: Black Oak Golf Club, Long Valley, New Jersey
Job Type: Paid Internship (Seasonal/Full-Time)
Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent

Position Summary

The Paid Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Intern is a hands-on learning opportunity designed for individuals pursuing a career in golf course management. The intern will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to gain practical experience in all aspects of golf course maintenance, agronomy, irrigation, equipment operation, and staff leadership.

This position provides valuable real-world experience while developing the technical and management skills necessary for a successful career in the golf course industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with the daily maintenance and presentation of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscaped areas.
• Participate in mowing, rolling, course setup, and tournament preparation.
• Assist with irrigation system monitoring, scheduling, repairs, and water management.
• Help implement fertility, pesticide, and integrated pest management (IPM) programs under the supervision of licensed personnel.
• Monitor turf health and identify potential disease, insect, weed, and environmental stress issues.
• Operate and maintain golf course equipment safely and efficiently.
• Assist with aerification, topdressing, overseeding, drainage, and other cultural practices.
• Support special projects, renovations, and landscape improvements.
• Learn daily crew scheduling, job assignments, and maintenance planning.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, chemical applications, and irrigation data.
• Follow all safety procedures and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or related program.
• Passion for golf course management and turfgrass science.
• Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Valid driver's license preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in golf course maintenance, landscaping, groundskeeping, or agriculture is a plus, but not required.
• Basic knowledge of turfgrass management principles and irrigation systems.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate maintenance equipment.
