- Computer Vision Scientist, Eye Image Analysis Reading Centers (EIARC)
Description
We are seeking a computer vision expert to help propel the University Hospital of Cleveland, Eye Image Analysis Reading Centers (EIARC) to the next level in the analysis of ophthalmic images. The candidate should have experience in computer vision (deep learning and image processing), preferably with experience in ophthalmology. Real world experience with education in biomedical engineering (or related disciplines) or computer and data science are desirable.
The Eye Image Analysis Reading Centers (EIARC) is one the leading eye image analysis reading centers in the United States advancing the field of ophthalmology through its federal and corporate studies. The EIARC mission is to provide superior image analysis and trial development support for clinical trials and studies examining the effects of drugs, devices and diseases on the cornea and the retina. EIARC is seeking a full-time computer vision scientist to join our AI R&D initiatives which are focused on ophthalmic image analyses. In this role, you’ll design and apply cutting-edge AI models to clinical trials research and biomarker discovery.
--Lead the discovery and requirements gathering process with key clinical and business stakeholders to
inform analytic plans.
--Build scalable pipelines for feature extraction, quantification, and visualization from various ophthalmic
images and other biomedical data types.
--Research, design, develop and implement statistical and deep learning models, and advanced analytics
to extract biologically and clinically relevant features from ophthalmic images and data and support key
strategic initiatives.
--Work with foundation model embeddings to power discovery, classification, and search across largescale
datasets.
--Visualize data in creative ways that brings data and insights to life and is consumable in the business
and operational workflow of end-users
--Develop documentation, software, support tools, and technology infrastructure to enhance the ability of
analysts and operational leaders across the clinical enterprise to effectively and rapidly extract meaning
from health care data.
--Collaborate with ophthalmic industry and academic stakeholders to understand real-world challenges
and co-create translational solutions.
--Support the EIARC leadership team in customer discussions, shaping AI strategy and solutions that meet
data needs across discovery, translational, and clinical programs.
--Mentor junior researchers through research projects fostering CWRU biomedical engineering students’
interest in research, AI, and image analysis.
--Collaborate with University Hospitals (UH) and CWRU IT to support data architecture of diverse datasets
that support clinical integration by converging these disparate data systems into repositories fit for
algorithmic development and model training.
--Stay current on the latest developments in AI, digital imaging, and pharmaceutical applications
Requirements
--Master's Degree MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or other related fields. (Required)
--1 year Experience or more working with complex analytic situations or big data environments.
(Required)
--Experience working with complex analytic situations or big data environments. (Required proficiency)
--Healthcare (Hospital/Health System, Payor, or Life Sciences) experience. (Preferred proficiency)
--At least one scientific computing language such as Python (e.g. pytorch, scikit-learn, pandas, scikitimage,
keras, tensorflow) or R (e.g. caret, dplyr, ggplot2). (Required proficiency)
--Experience with relational databases and SQL queries. (Required proficiency)
--Knowledge of or experience working with image processing. (Required proficiency)
--Experience collaborating with both junior and senior team members. (Required proficiency)
--Capable of gathering and validating requirements, articulating the pros and cons of different analytic
approaches, estimating timelines for completion of work, and predicting potential challenges to
producing accurate time estimates and analytic plans. (Required proficiency)
