Summary
Colville School District is now accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE certificated CTE Natural Resources/Fish Hatchery Teacher at Colville High School for the 2026-2027 school year. This position is responsible for creating a flexible instructional program and a class environment that supports learning and personal growth, while advancing the mission of Colville High School: to promote academic excellence by providing all students with a high-quality education based on high expectations in a safe and caring environment.
The successful candidate will establish positive working relationships with other staff members and provide active leadership, guidance, supervision, and advisory support within the Fish Hatchery Program.
Candidates must possess a valid Washington state teaching certificate and an academic background appropriate to the subject area or grade level. The candidate is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of learning experiences for students in cooperation with other staff members.
Essential Duties
- Meet assigned classes at designated times and locations, and provide instruction in fisheries science, aquaculture, and natural resources.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with district/state curriculum, and adapt instruction through individualized and small-group learning to meet diverse student needs.
- Create and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment that supports a variety of learning styles and student interests.
- Establish clear learning objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and effectively communicate expectations to students.
- Use appropriate instructional methods, strategies, and materials to support student achievement of curriculum goals.
- Supervise and instruct students in all aspects of fish hatchery operations, including egg incubation, fish rearing, feeding, grading, marking, stocking, and fish health monitoring.
- Monitor and maintain water quality, dissolved oxygen levels, temperature units, fish growth, and mortality records to ensure healthy production systems.
- Oversee hatchery facility operations, including cleaning, equipment maintenance, pumps, generators, and incubation systems.
- Calculate feed rations, stocking densities, fish growth projections, and medication dosages, as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of fish production, inventories, stocking permits, sales, and operational data using digital and written systems.
- Coordinate fish health inspections, fish transport, stocking activities, and regulatory compliance with WDFW and other agencies.
- Manage fish distribution, sales, invoicing, and communication with buyers and program partners.
- Provide hands-on, real-world learning experiences that integrate science, leadership, environmental stewardship, and career readiness skills.
- Conduct tours, demonstrations, and outreach activities for students, community members, and visiting groups.
- Ensure safe student participation in all laboratory, field, and hatchery-based learning activities, and enforce all safety protocols.

Salary & Benefits
This position is part of the Colville Education Association (CEA) Teachers' Bargaining Unit. Salary is determined in accordance with the CEA Collective Bargaining Agreement, which—including the salary matrix—is available on the Colville School District's Business Office website under the Collective Bargaining Agreements tab: https://www.colsd.org/page/do-business-office. Qualifications

- Valid Washington State teaching certification with an endorsement in Natural Resources Science, Environmental Science, or Biology. Note: Candidates with multiple endorsements are preferred.
- CTE Certification in Fisheries or Aquaculture, or willingness to obtain it.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals, as applicable.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, students, and the general public
- Ability to solve practical problems and work with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research to instructional programs.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

- Knowledge of, and ability to assess and design instruction for a classroom of diverse learners (e.g., English as a Second Language [ESL], highly capable, learning disabled, autistic, orthopedically or gross-motor impaired, health impaired, intellectually disabled, communication disordered, behavior disabilities, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to successfully employ effective teaching methods in grades 9-12.
- Demonstrated ability to use the four essential teaching behaviors—assessment, evaluation, planning, and instruction—to deliver quality programs for all students.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective classroom management.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.

- Ability to obtain and maintain active First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of employment and biannually thereafter; training will be provided by the district.
- Favorable results from a state and national fingerprint background check are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multiple teaching endorsements in Washington State.
- Having completed CASE Institute curriculum training is a very high priority.
- Previous experience teaching at the high school level.
- Willingness and interest in College in the High School teaching, if the opportunity arises.
- Shows willingness to serve as a student class advisor to club advisor.
- Shows willingness to attend and/or help at school extracurricular activities.
