Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Clemson University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in Biophysics under the mentorship of Assistant Professor Dr. Sheng Liu.
This position focuses on the development of a high-resolution single-particle tracking system based on MINFLUX microscopy to study protein dynamics and interactions in live cells. The successful candidate will play a central role in advanced instrumentation development and interdisciplinary biophysics research.
Primary research responsibilities include:
- Design, construction, and optimization of a MINFLUX microscope
- Development of instrument control software
- Data acquisition, processing, and quantitative analysis
- Preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Cell line generation and biological sample preparation
- Development of data analysis algorithms for single-molecule and super-resolution data
Appointment Details
- Anticipated start date: September 1, 2026 (negotiable)
- Initial appointment: One year
- Renewal: Potential renewal based on performance and availability of funding

Requirements
Required:
PhD in Optics, Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field, awarded or expected by 2026.
Preferred Experience:
- Optical system design and alignment
- Instrument control software development
- Electronic circuit design and FPGA programming
- Cell culture and biological sample preparation
Preferred Programming and Software Skills:
- Julia, Python, MATLAB, CUDA, LabVIEW
- Zemax, Inventor, SolidWorks
- KiCad, Vivado, or related tools
