Description
Job DescriptionSmall Animal Medical Oncologist - Clinical Research Focus
Location: Austin TX
Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center (AVES) is seeking a board-certified Medical Oncologist to join our newly established Clinical Trial Center, working alongside a board-certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist within our expanding specialty and emergency hospital in Austin, TX. This unique role allows you to blend top-tier clinical oncology with groundbreaking research, working directly with industry leaders in veterinary pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and treatment innovation.
About the Role:
As part of a two-specialist team, you will:
- Collaborate with an internist and a dedicated support team to conduct sponsored clinical research trials, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) trials, proof-of-concept studies, and industry-sponsored investigations.
- Work with leading pharmaceutical, pet food, device development, and diagnostic companies on cutting-edge veterinary research.
- Provide gold-standard oncology care while offering clients access to fully funded trials, ensuring the highest level of treatment regardless of financial limitations.
- See a variety of case types, including some outside of traditional oncology practice, expanding your scope based on new and emerging areas of veterinary research.
- Benefit from a structured research environment where projects are provided, allowing you to focus on clinical execution and discovery rather than grant writing.
- Have dedicated time for data entry and research coordination, ensuring high-quality documentation and compliance with study protocols.
Who Should Apply?
This position is perfect for:
- A newer diplomate drawn to the academic aspects of clinical research but preferring a structured setting with industry-sponsored studies rather than independent grant writing.
- A seasoned private practice oncologist seeking a balanced consultation schedule with dedicated time for research while continuing to provide exceptional patient care.
- An oncologist who enjoys variety and is open to expanding their expertise based on the evolving landscape of veterinary clinical research.
What We Offer:
- Competitive compensation and benefits
- Collaborative, multi-specialty hospital environment, including 24/7 Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Surgery, Oncology, Neurology and Ultrasound. Cardiology services are provided daily by CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets. Radiation Oncology and Rehabilitation and Acupuncture will be available in the fall of 2025.
- A supportive team including research coordinators and skilled technicians to assist in study execution
- The opportunity to work on groundbreaking studies with top-tier industry partners
No prior research experience is required, though previous involvement in clinical research is highly preferred.
